Augbsurg Apart is located right in the center of Piatra-Neamț, in a beautiful historical building. It was built in 1919 by a businessman from Bucharest. After only two years, in 1921, he sold it to an important miller from Grumăzești. He lived in the house on the street, and his staff lived in the annexes behind. After the communist period, the property returned to the heirs, and in 2019 Mrs. Matasă, the owner of the Augsburg knitting factory, bought it from them. The new owner started an extensive restoration process in May 2021, finished in the spring of 2023 by reopening the main body. On the back side of the building and in the attic, but also in the annex at the back of the property, seven accommodation spaces have been very elegantly arranged - only apartments, with different compartments and sizes. On another side of the historic house, opening onto the boulevard, is the boutique store nadia & julia (by Augsburg). And on the other side Haute Bistro Cuisine & Cafe.

The Bicaz dam is one of the most visited places in the entire Neamț county, impressing with its size. It is the first construction of this type erected in Romania through an immense human effort that lasted 10 years (1950-1960). The construction of a dam on Bistrița was the dream of the engineer Dimitrie Leonida, who set up the Stejaru hydropower plant project, a construction that was to produce electricity for all of Moldova, with the help of Bistriţa waters. More than 18,000 people, including soldiers, political prisoners or residents of the Bistriței Valley, forced by the communist regime, worked on the construction of the dam at Bicaz, the adduction tunnel and the electric plant at Stejaru. Shack-type housing was built in the Dodeni and Ciungi neighborhoods, canteens, but also a construction site hospital for those organized in labor colonies.   The heaviest and most dangerous jobs were assigned to priests, intellectuals, or to so called wealthy peasants and consisted of digging, dislodging and transporting waste with wagons, thus accidents occurred frequently during the work due to lack of experience and working conditions. At the foundation of the dam, approximately 1,300,000 cubic meters of rock were excavated to hold 1.2 billion cubic meters of water.   The Bicaz Dam is 127 meters high and is the largest gravity dam on the inland rivers of Romania, being surpassed by Porțile de Fier/Iron Gates I, and is the third highest dam in the country. It is the 9th highest weight barrier in Europe.   The construction consists of 30 plots (blocks) separated by joints sealed upstream with reinforced concrete and copper wedges. The body of the dam is crossed by galleries, ventilation shafts and niches for visiting. In the specially arranged rooms there are actuation and control installations, tracking equipment of the behavior of each element.   18,760 people (almost 2,300 households from 20 villages) were displaced to close the dam and build the reservoir. Some preferred not to leave their native places and dismantled their houses piece by piece, and where possible, rebuilt them higher up, away from the waters of the coming lake. The cemeteries were displaced and transported on the "Road of the Dead", the trees were cut and the buildings demolished, sometimes even by dynamiting.    In the nearby village of Hangu the only building that could not be completely dynamited was the Hangu Church (built of reinforced concrete with rails taken from a disused railway), the remains of which can be seen when the waters of the lake are dried up, in dry summers or frosty winters. It is said that those who tried to dynamite it were followed to death by a curse.   There is a high-precision seismograph inside the dam, which records the tiniest tremors of heavy machinery crossing the area. The body of the dam is crossed by galleries, ventilation shafts and visiting niches, and in specially arranged rooms there are actuation and control installations, tracking equipment of the behavior of each element. Designed to withstand an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.5 on the Richter scale, the dam at Bicaz never faced any problems and survived the great earthquake of March 4, 1977. The scenario related to the breaking of the Bicaz dam in the event of an accident is equivalent to a disaster, with a breach of 75% in width and height, the flood wave would reach 19.5 meters at Piatra-Neamț (at the Bâtca Doamnei Dam).

The wooden church in Bicazu Ardelean was built in 1692 and bears the name of the patron saint "Saint Dumitru". It is located 1500 meters from the center of the commune, on the road Bicazu Ardelean Telec - Toşorog - Tulgheş. The beautiful little church is built of yew wood, and the beams are finished in a "dovetail" with the help of wooden nails. The plan of the church is in the shape of a cross, with a bell tower. The church is covered with thatch. The church is entirely painted in Byzantine style by an anonymous painter. The painting is made on linen canvas, glued with natural resin to beams, over which an emulsion made of milk, cheese and lime was applied. The scenes worth noting in the painting are: "the rapture of Elijah to heaven", "the hour of the seraphim", "the creation of humankind", "the face of death", etc. In the past, the church served to maintain the Romanian Orthodox spirit, being at the crossroads between Moldova and Transylvania.

The "St. Gheorghe" church in Ștefan cel Mare is an Orthodox church, founded in 1636 by the ruler Vasile Lupu, in the village of Şerbești (today the village of Ștefan cel Mare in Neamț county). It underwent changes in 1922. The place of worship stands on a plateau dominating the eastern part of the village, surrounded by a comprehensive enclosure, surrounded by strong stone walls. The church was included on the List of Historical Monuments in Neamț County in 2004. Along time, the Church of "St. George" in Ștefan cel Mare benefited from donations of cult objects or other odors from the owners of the estate, mainly the Cantacuzine boyars. Among the precious scents that are in the parish's heritage, the following should be mentioned: "a gold-polished silver chalice, engraved with the following inscription: "Io Cantacuzino vel Spătar, leat 1767" In the churchyard, near the southern wall of the place of worship, there are two old tombs, with funerary monuments of remarkable artistic value above them. One of the graves is that of Prince Alexandru Ilie Cantacuzino, who died in Karlsbad (today the city of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic) in 1859 and was reburied in Şerbești ten years later, by his wife, Princess Elena Cantacuzino. And the second tomb has above it an obelisk with an iron cross on top; an almost illegible inscription is engraved on the plinth and above it, the double-headed eagle (the coat of arms of the Cantacuzino family), carved in high relief.

In the locality of Cârligi is the parish church, a former Greek monastery, built in 1827. Tradition says that Stephen the Great would have built a wooden church on these places, between the years 1457-1459, which was always renovated, but chances are very slim. The church is built out of stone and brick on an area of 300 square meters. The roof is made of galvanized sheet. The construction is like those places of worship that can also serve as a means of defense if necessary, the church from Cârligi shows striking similarities with the one from the "Palatul Cnejilor", having a cross-shaped plan and a bell tower attached to the W side, like churches from the 17th century. As in Şerbeşti, the lateral apses are marked on the outside by rectangular reliefs, while the apse of the altar has a semicircular shape. The bell tower is located above the porch, which is covered with a spherical cap and has a crenellated opening to the S that betrays (as in the "Palatul Cnejilor") some defensive features of the construction. At the entrance to the church, more precisely in the pronaos, the son of the Costache Rosetti nobleman, Ioan Cantacuzino, who died on November 17, 1830, is buried. We find some mentions about the fact that the place of worship was restored by the nobleman Ion Cantacuzino, whose tomb is inside the church.

The church was built in the center of Roznov, right in the park area, between 1884 and 1892 by colonel Gheorghe Ruset Roznovanu. The building has the shape of a cross with equal arms, being made with stone on the outside, which gives it an austere and massive note. The elevated roof is dominated by a bulbous spire, specific to Russian churches, and richly ornamented with three rows of stone brackets, whose dimensions decrease towards the base of the spire. The high foundation allowed the construction of a spacious basement that fulfills the function of a funeral crypt, housing the graves of the Roznovanu family, and the side apses, of semicircular shape, each have three windows with stone borders in relief and tympanums with trilobed braces. The entrance to the church is done in a solemn way, the stone stairs being particularly elegant. From the front of the church you enter directly into the spacious nave. The pediment of the church is also unique, it was made in Moscow, from gilded bronze, between 1890-1892. The fresco painting of the interior was done between 1913-1915 by Costin Petrescu. The votive paintings of the founders, in which Colonel Roznovanu, his wife, Alexandrina Ruset Roznovanu, and their son are depicted, are particularly authentic. Good to know: On an iconostasis to the right of the nave are two icons given to Roznovanu by Grand Duke Pavel Alexandrovici and Tsar Nicholas II. Another icon, dressed in silver, was donated by Leon Urusov, ambassador of Russia in several European countries, and among the religious books in the church's heritage is a Gospel from 1644 written in Slavonic.

The construction of the cabin began in the spring of 1913 and was completed in the fall of the same year. It is the first tourist cabin built in the Eastern Carpathians. Over the years, it has been extended several times, and the accommodation capacity has gradually increased.   As a result of the severe damage of the mountain shelter during the First World War, important restoration works were carried out. On August 6, 1922, on the occasion of the celebration of Ceahlău (Mountain Day as the locals call it), the renovated cabin with approximately 30 seats was again made available to hikers, this time for a long time. 606 people were present at the inauguration. The next restoration of the cabin took place in 1946, and in 1958-1959 it was expanded to accommodate more tourists (120 places). Old rooms were completed with new ones, with stone walls fixed with mortar and electric light was introduced. In 1962, the cottage could accommodate 150 tourists at the cottages. In the years 1984-1988, the capacity and comfort conditions of the lodge increased by adding a new wing, with three levels. The cabin was recently renovated and the restaurant serves a varied meniu. Additionally, tourists can enjoy a sauna and an outdoor hot bath.

Vasile Manolachi, the head of the Voluntary Service for Emergency Situations within the Tazlău City Hall, is the man who loves traditions who managed to gather a collection of old household objects, in a house on Mocăniței street. In the yard, next to the small wooden house, on a stone foundation, with a porch and two rooms, there is another body, made later, when the family that owned the property enlarged with 5 children. After years, in which the two houses were not lived in, Vasile Manolachi cleaned them and started setting up a future museum of the village, which still does not have an official name. He would like to call it "Grandma's House", as it looks anyway. The "old house" has on the back wall a yoke for cows and one for oxes, winter horseshoes, a tongs (sunffers) that was inserted into the cattle's nostrils, to stand on the horseshoe, a feather hammer for splitting logs, a loom, a wooden rake, the hog's hair basket that no household lacks and, of course, the oven shovel and the spinning spoon in the magiun. On the lintel are the zolitores (archaic washing machines), covets, a spinning machine and a pot for swilling. Inside, the most generous space is occupied by a war of weaving, made from pieces received from several villagers. It is functional and the children will be able to see, live, how the ropes and carpets were made. Anișoara Luca and her mother, who I wrote about here, will explain to the participants of the camp every single operation and describe the pieces of the war. IMPORTANT: On Google Maps the location appears on Ecoului street, near Mocăniței street. However, it is not very clear whether or not the location can be visited by the general public.

The "Alexandru Vlahuță" house in Agapia is a small memorial museum established in the house where the writer Alexandru Vlahuță lived (1858-1919). The house was built of wood in 1885, near the Agapia Monastery (Neamț County). The Mitropoly of Moldavia and Suceava carried out consolidation and restoration works of the house where the writer lived. In 1963, a memorial exhibition was organized in this house that includes original furniture and personal items of the Vlahuță family, as well as photographies, letters and books that reveal significant aspects of the life and work of the well-known writer. In Tazlau commune from Neamt county is the memorial house where the doctor and writer Ioan I. Mironescu was born and lived. It was set up in 1969 as a museum and permanent exhibition including personal items, photographies, sketches, books and furniture that belonged to him. The house in Tazlău was, a long time ago, also the meeting place and spiritual relaxation of many prominent personalities of Romanian culture around the magazine "Romanian Life", among which we mention: Mihail Sadoveanu, Garabet Ibrăileanu, Panait Istrati, George Topârceanu, Otilia Casimir, Shepherd Teodoreanu, Ionel Teodoreanu, etc. A good friend of George Toparceanu, Mihail Sadoveanu and Panait Istrati, I. I. Mironescu was appreciated as a person, as a doctor but also as a writer. In order to get to know him better, Mihail Sadoveanu writes a precious piece of information and sends us to the place that was dearest to the writer, namely: "His life was not the University, the practice of an excellent doctor, politics and literature, his life was his parental village". Over time, the writer's sister, Lina Donea, organized numerous cultural activities in this house, such as: meetings of the literary circle or sessions. The museum was set up with the initiative and contribution of the writer's daughter, Rodica Mironescu, who managed to recover some documents, family letters, the author's notes, books and photographs from his relatives. The exhibition includes 2 halls where the reconstruction of a farm from the way of life of the interwar Tazlau was watched. Thus, the writer's work room was reconstructed with the original furniture, personal items, library, images from his medical activity. The scenery and the area of Tazlău commune, where the house of the doctor and writer Ioan Mironescu is located, is very beautiful! Surrounded by mountains and fir trees, strongly ozonized and swayed by the swirling flow of the Tazlau river, it is ideal for relaxation or to spend a vacation away from everyday stress! IMPORTANT: It is good to know that the location is temporarily closed, but you can contact the hosts to check if the memorial house has been reopened. Be that as it may, from the outside you can admire the beautiful construction in traditional style.

The "Mihail Sadoveanu" memorial house, located near the Vovidenia Hermitage and near the Neamț Monastery, was established in 1964, in the bishop's house built in 1937 for Metropolitan Visarion Puiu. Later, the building ends up under the administration of the Mitropoly, which makes it available to Sadoveanu to serve as his creative and recreational home. Here the writer spent his summers and holidays with his family members, friends and cultural and political personalities of the time. Among those who stayed at Vovidenia as guests of the writer are Maria Tănase, Emil Bodnăraș and Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej (former communist ruler). Today you can see in the museum numerous objects that belonged to the writer (clothing, hunting weapons, fishing tools, the entire Sadovenian work, which also includes the princeps editions). One of the places that keeps alive the memory of the poet Veronica Micle (1850-1889) is the memorial house in Târgu-Neamţ, located in the old hearth of the city, on the road leading to Neamţ Citadel. Built by the Neamţ Monastery around 1834, to be used as a monastery and a school for monks, the building was bought in 1850 by Ana Câmpeanu (Veronica Micle's mother), who came here from Năsăud, after the death of her husband, together with the her two children, Veronica and Radu. We do not know the reasons why the Neamţ Monastery sold this house, but it is certain that on August 10, 1850, Ana Câmpeanu became the owner of this building, as shown by the sale-purchase deed. THE HYDROELECTRIC PLANT The "Dimitrie Leonida" hydroelectric plant is located at the foot of the Botoșanu mountain, at a distance of approximately 15 km from the dam, following the old stream of the Bistrița river. It was put into operation in 1960, becoming the most important objective under the administration of the Bistrița branch. In a first stage, 4 groups of 27.5 MW were installed, which went into operation in a row between October 1, 1960 and February 2, 1961. The last two groups of 50 MW each went into operation on June 29, 1962, respectively on October 5 of the same year. As a result of the improvements made and the qualification tests, the power plant was selected for the provision of system services: secondary frequency-power regulation, ensuring the rapid tertiary reserve of active power, ensuring the restoration of the National Energy System in case of extensive breakdowns or total failure of the system. The plant has produced more than 20 billion MWh in its more than 50 years of existence. THE SUPPLY TUNNEL The gallery of the water intake tunnel (4,655 m long, internal Ø of 7 m), crosses the Botoșanu mountain and stretches between the 4 openings of the water intake (which consists of an underground part of 90 m long, an above-ground construction of 70 m that supports the grate cleaning machine and the 46 m deep wet well in which there are flat valves of 6.50 x 9.00 m, sealed upstream) - located 1.5 km upstream of the dam and the hydropower plant located 15 km downstream - on the Bistriței stream (which in this area forms a loop that surrounds Botoșanu mountain). The tunnel has an inner layer of reinforced concrete and an outer layer of plain concrete, the final 424 m of the tunnel being armored with sheet metal. From the tunnel to the forced pipes, the junction is made by a 60 t metal piece of 14.2 m trouser type, embedded in a concrete massif. The pipes (which lead the water to the turbines) are in number 2, they are embedded in two anchoring masses, they have a diameter of 4.2 - 3.8 m and a drop of 90 m, they have an oblique aerial portion and a horizontal underground one and are visible from the National Road (DN) 15 . The pipe on the right supplies the 4 small turbines and the left one on the 2 large ones. Two butterfly valves (safety and control) are mounted in series on each line of the pipe downstream of the trouser piece. The balance castle (located on the axis of the tunnel) consists of an - aerial - upper chamber (height 17 m and diaphragm with internal Ø of 33 m) and a shaft (depth of 70 m and internal Ø of 23 m). In order to dissipate the energy, the bottom of the castle has a geometry with side vaults. Geologically, the water intake is located in an area of black shale, and the rest (the derivation pipeline, the balance castle, the valve house, the forced pipeline and the hydropower plant) in one of marl-clay sediments.

The cross from Bisericani is a beautiful viewpoint well known to the locals of Piatra Neamț, situated just 12 km away from the city, on the way to Bicaz. Usually, on nice weekends, lots of people come here to enjoy the splendid view.
